Coy boys are the male versions of dumb blondes. A spate of television ads are taking the mickey out of such guys by highlighting their 'dumbness'.

 

Most women agree that coy boys are an instant turn off and they would certainly avoid them.  The men on the other hand concede that this is a sign of changing times. A.L. Choughule decided to check out with our TV celebs on whether they believe that the advent of the coy boy is the direct result of gender equality. 

 

Shweta Gulati:

 

Coy boys are definitely a turn off for girls. Once upon a time I was a simple, seedhi and bit reserved girl and therefore I wouldn't make fun of a genuinely seedha guy. In fact, girls have sympathy for such guys. But the ones who act like cool dudes even though they lack brains are the ones girls make real fun of.

 

They wouldn't think twice before putting these guys into their place and make fun of their empty 'top floor'. For decades girls have been at the receiving end of boys' silly jokes and snide comments but now girls, thanks to their growing strength and confidence, are giving it back to boys in a big way. I am happy with this emerging gender equality.

Every game has to be played by the rule. Gender equality, though an urban phenomena, is slowly changing the rule of the equation between boys and girls.

 

Girls are becoming increasingly assertive and I am glad that they are paying guys in the same coin who target girls with jokes and undue comments.

 

Ads are an exaggeration of the social reality. I don't think girls go to any extent to make fun of coy boys.

 

I think it's an extreme thought that girls are getting back at boys like never before. On the contrary the gender bond is evolving and becoming healthier. There are exceptions, though.

Thanks to education and financial independence girls look up to boys who are intelligent, confident and sensitive. Girls have an intellectual bend of mind and therefore respect and get attracted to men who may not be macho and handsome but are intelligent.

 

Guys go for beauty, sexy clothes and skin. I really don't care for a guy who is well dressed and acts like a super hero unless I know his intelligence and intellectual prowess.

 

Coy boys are harmless but the ones who act smart despite being dumb are the ones girls can't stand. They deserve to be paid back in the same coin. I am glad that girls show them their place.

What's wrong if girls make fun of dumb boys when boys make fun of dumb girls? I am glad that gender equality is finally catching up and biased rules are being broken.

 

Society is changing and so are the rules we abide by. Making fun within permissible limits is not bad. It makes the boy-girl relationship healthy. Intelligence is always respected and dumbness is looked down upon.

 

It's good that both boys and girls are showing each other their place if one tries to outsmart the other.
