Beware all you men in offices, as the ?office piranha? is the predator working day in and day out to find her prey. The ?Office piranha? is a new term coined by a divorced lawyer in England, which defines women at the workplace who join companies where there are lots of male employees, to find a suitable partner. They specially eye the boss.
Piranha is the man-eating South American fish and the term says it all, as the office piranhas will not spare the men they are hitting on. The most prominent characteristics that office piranhas have are the uncalled for love and affection they shower on their prey.
But Pankaj Thakur, a test manager in Microsoft feels piranhas don?t always have to spell trouble. He says, "It?s good if the colleague is extra helpful and always willing to work, because it helps in getting the work done faster. Actually it?s good for their promotion too. But knowing that somebody is married and still hitting on them will not help in the professional as well as personal front." If somebody is hitting on you in the office and trying to win your heart by being super sweet and extra efficient, then the situation gets awkward.
Saurabh Sinha, an assistant system engineer from TCS says, "The best way to be saved from office piranhas is to avoid them. I would never let them know what are my requirements in office and keep them away from my future projects. This way, they won?t be able to poke nose in my personal matters and interfere all the time."
However, Sujata Mukherjee, a manager in IBM finds this term very derogatory. She says, "It?s not right to define a working woman as a piranha because I have also come across men who are working in offices and always looking for prospective partners. There are several women who are more focused on their career and getting married is not their priority."
But most working women are amused by this term. Associate executive from Deloitte, Mehjabeen Raza says, "I have come across so many office piranhas and I think many women go out of their way to help their male bosses and constantly try to please them but showering favours. They have their personal interests, so they would arrange meetings, schedules, files and everything without complaining." So, all you office employees if you are being targeted by an office piranha, you know what?s on their mind.
