[hindi_jokes] Lets know india bette.........Starting with Rocking City... Gurgaon...(Prishi)

Where Rural India meets Urban India - The Millenium City - The City of Malls

Gurgaon, a city that has existed since the days of the mythological Mahabharat is now India's
fastest growing city. It's proximity to Delhi, the undeveloped acres of land, its location on the
Delhi - Jaipur national highway and the strong support of a construction giant like DLF has made
this village into prime property for Multi-national companies, big industries, call centers, young
graduates and retired pensioners alike.

Though slowly, things are improving, mainly due to the constant inflow of companies, people and
money. For a working professional Gurgaon is a great city, the right mix of world class office
buildings, comfortable and fully equiped apartments, and a lot of dining choices. On the weekends,
one can always hit the highway and explore the nearby states. Jaipur is three hours away, Agra is
four, Delhi is one, Shimla is six, the list goes on.

Gurgaon, apart from being the new hub of BPOs and all multi-nationals, it is also fast becoming
India's retail hub. On one road there are 10 malls and 25 more are coming. On another there are 20 being
planned. Name the store and it is here. From Marks and Spencer to Guess to Big Bazaar (India's own
Walmart, much smaller ofcourse) it is all here in these malls. Within a 5 kilometer radius, there are
around 10-15 cinema screens. People come from all over North India, to shop in Gurgaon's malls.

So if you are looking for a job, or looking to outsource your business, Gurgaon is a great bet.

A shot of the Millenium city of Gurgaon.
As Gurgaon explodes, this is the scene that is most often repeated.
A string of high rises surrounded by a row of slums. These are the
workers' residence. It is ironical that they build the tallest buildings
in India, built to last a lifetime, while their own lives are spent
in the most temporary of housing. One building over, they move their
asbestos sheets to the next and their life goes on.

Rural boys with headphones

I have lived in Gurgaon now for more than 18 months. In this time I have traveled more than I ever
did in my first 25 years. I've religiously tried to post the pictures from each of our travels,
and now the Incredible India gallery is really a treasure trove photos and memories. Yet, in all
this time, I never thought of making a Gurgaon gallery. So here it is. Today I went and shot
photos exclusively of Gurgaon.

This is a band of boys who were fascinated by my camera as much as I was fascinated with their
headphones. These are boys who live in the slums but have the opportunity to be part of
India's rapid growth. Their headphones didn't connect to anything, there was no phone or radio,
but I am sure these boys with their curiosity will do well for themselves.
