If it were so that wishes came true, as some say they do,
Then in days of endless wishing my life would be spent
Night and Day would I dream solely of you, wishing for
You to love me even as I love you 'til the end of time
If dropping coins in a fountain grants one's deepest wish
Then obstinately I'd seek to gather all the coinage of the world
And tossing coins daily in a fountain, I'd wish the waters
Of pure love between the two of us would forever freely flow
If wishing upon a star causes anything that your heart desires
Or anything for which you long to come true
Upon seeing the first star each night, I would wish that
Nothing would e'er stop or hinder eternal love between us
If making a wish and blowing out your birthday candles
All with one breath, results in your coming true.
Then with every birthday candle blown out, I'd wish for
The privilege of spending the rest of my years with you
But there is little hope in wishing 'cause for me wishes
Rarely come true leaving me only with my dreams
If it were so that wishes did come true, then you would be
Here and I would never have to say goodbye.
